About Course

DIMENSIONS OF PHYSICAL QUANTITIES & UNITS

A physical quantity is a feature or property of a body that can be measured (or quantified).

Examples include mass, length, volume, speed, momentum, …

Objectives

By the end of this course/topic, a learner should be able to:

  • Define a physical quantity and give examples with their S.I units,
  • Distinguish between fundamental (basic or base) and derived quantities,  give examples of each with their S.I units,
  • Define dimensions of a physical quantity,
  • State the uses or applications of the knowledge of dimensions of a physical quantity,
  • Use the concept of dimensions of physical quantities to check for the consistency of equations and to derive equations (not so much emphasized),
  • Define or distinguish between Scalar and Vector quantities and give examples of each,
  • Resolve components of a vector quantity, add or subtract vectors using the component method,
  • Solve numerical values.

Subtopics to be covered:

  1. Physical quantities (Basic and Derived)
  2. Dimensions of a physical quantity
  3. Scalars and vectors (Addition/ subtraction, resolving)

Also note that:

  1. You will have to do some tests/quizzes so as to test your progress.
  2. You will enjoy some games along with the lesson.
  3. You can participate in the forum where you can create a question of discussion and fellow student respond to the topics)
  4.  Feel free to let your friends know about this platform.

Enjoy 🙂
